After the M&MTB takeover, the Prahran & Malvern cars retained their numbers, except for the four cars sold to the Hawthorn Tramways Trust, which were numbered 127-130 in the M&MTB fleet, in line with the renumbering of the other Hawthorn cars.
Note that L class cars 104 and 106 were effectively retired in 1981, but continued to see occasional use on a variety of tourist services until it was decided to retain them as heritage tramcars. They are now on display at Hawthorn Depot.
